MICKEY ROURKE wins a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama at the Golden Globes for his portrayal of Randy “The Ram” Robinson in "The Wrestler" Mickey was also nominated for the Best Actor Oscar, which was won by Sean Penn.

The 52 year old Rourke, says: “Randy is a wrestler at the twilight of his career. Rather he has been at the twilight of his career for several years.

“He thinks he has one more game in him — one more shot. He wants to come back again.

“I know what that’s like. Randy was somebody 20 years ago and so was Mickey Rourke.

“When you used to be a somebody and you aren’t anybody any more, you live in what my doctor calls a state of shame. It’s when you had a career, then you mess up and you don’t have a career any more — and it’s all your fault.

“Hollywood is a very unforgiving place. I took a nosedive down all by myself, no one pushed me.

“I was on the bench for 13 years. Time goes by and you start to think: ‘Man, is it really over like everyone says it is?’

“And I was in LA — where you are reminded every day of it.

“You’ll be buying cigarettes at two in the morning and there will be a line of five or six people and some jerk is going to go: ‘Hey didn’t you used to be in the movies? What happened to you? How come you don’t work any more?’

“I heard it 24/7. I did nothing. I went to the gym, I did small parts in crappy movies. For a period of time I didn’t even have an agent.

“I had a motorcycle collection — and I sold all my motorcycles.

“Then I had a friend who was a successful hairdresser, and he’d give me a couple of hundred bucks a week to keep me going.

“Then the last thing I did was I had this really nice 1963 Mini Cooper that I bought and kitted up really nicely. I sunk a lot of money into it then sold it for a third of what I spent on it. It was things like that I did to get by.”

Looking back on where it all went wrong, a candid Mickey admits: “Before I got to the top of the mountain I jumped off head first. I had a lot of lessons to learn the hard way. I thought I’d get back in after a year or two, but the struggle has been longer than 15 years to come back.

“My grandmother always said: ‘God has a plan for all of us.’ I should have went along with his, not mine, my plan sucked.”

Mickey, divorced over the years from both from Debra Feuer and Carré Otis, says his personal life also suffered.

He explains: “Like in wrestling, in the movie business it is hard to hold down a relationship. I haven’t had a relationship for 14 years. I’m OK with it.

“It would be nice if Mrs Right came through the door, but I’m OK having my pet dogs.”

The mental pain endured by Mickey as he staged his comeback was only matched by the physical pain of making The Wrestler.

Mickey said: “It was physically brutal. “I had to do seven and a half months of extensive weightlifting, and eating six or seven meals a day, to put on 27 pounds of muscle.

“That’s not a lot of time — so I had this ex-soldier who was very strict with me about my training regime and my diet.

“This guy took it personally if I didn’t show up. I was staying in a hotel and I had a late night and I wasn’t answering a phone call from him and he actually came up to the room and I tried to get up in a little ball and put the covers over me in hopes that he would go away. The jerk went down and got the key.

“He got paid well, but it wasn’t that with him. It was the principle and I really respected him.

“Then there was four and a half months of wrestling training. By the time the movie started I thought it was over!

“Everybody knows wrestling is entertainment — but when you’re getting thrown around like that something is going to snap, crackle and pop. I went to the doctor so many times that I call him John, he calls me Mickey.”

Mickey is again honest when it comes to the Best Actor Oscar. He said: “This was the hardest movie I ever made, the best movie I ever made. So I’m feeling positive about it and what I did in it.

“In the end the Oscar should be about the acting. But there is a lot of grey, a lot of politics involved and a lot of interests.

“I did all I could do. Whatever happens, happens.

“I want to keep moving forward.

“There are always things that happen as the years go by, but I can’t complain.

“I’m still standing.”

Will Smith is Hollywood's biggest money earner pulling in a record $80 million for himself. Johnny Depp, came in a close second making just over $72 million. Third, fourth and fifth place goes to Leonardo DiCaprio, Eddie Murphy and Mike Meyers, they each pocketed about $55 million. Men generally make twice as much as women in Hollywood. Yet Cameron Diaz made $50 million last year. We don't think she's complaining.
The Buzz
is that
Heath Ledger in the role as the Joker in The Dark Knight may get him the nod for an Oscar. His co stars and many around Hollywood think it's a shoe in. Ledger died of an accidental overdose in January at age 28. The movie has grossed the most money by a film released internationally by making the most money ever in the least amount of time. Box Office Records are about to be broken as The Dark Knight stands to break the 600 million record by Titanic and the 315 million record by Iron Man.
Did You Know -
Leonardo DiCaprio was offered the role of the porn star Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights (1997) at around the same time as he was offered his role in Titanic (1997). The Dirk Diggler role eventually went to Mark Walhberg....while super star status came to DiCaprio playing Jack Dawson in Titanic. Titanic so far is the highest grossing film ever, tied with Ben-Hur (1959) for most Academy Awards, though Leonardo himself
was
not nominated. Model-turned-actress
Cameron Diaz seemed to come out of nowhere when she made her 1994 screen debut opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask. Cameron Diaz runs the gamut from action movie flicks like Charlie's Angel's to more serious roles like in Gangs of New York and even voice animation in Shrek. Cameron has become one of Hollywood's most powerful and highest paid actresses. Cameron Diaz made $50 million last year, the Shrek and What Happens in Vegas earns her the title of top-earning female in the movie business. Her personal life also makes the movie news headlines. Cameron has dated Matt Dillon
and
Jared Leto. She also dated pop star Justin Timberlake for nearly four years.
